Welcome to this inaugural moment of cheers and smiles with Serendipity Jane, your one and only Life Pro Coach here at the “Yes You Can Do It! Club”.
Meeting each other here is no coincidence. Perhaps it’s serendipity?
Robert Walpole, one of the most gifted letter writer of his time, coined the word “serendipity” after having read a rather silly Persian fairy tale called “The Three Princes of Serendip”. To quickly summarize the gist of this tale, believe it or not, all three sons of an old King who wanted to retire from his crown, refused to take over, saying that their father’s shoes were too large and none of the Royal Highnesses felt adequate to fill them.
Clearly, these three sons all had one thing on their mind when their refusal was uttered and it was something like “No, I don’t think I can do it.” Now I leave it up to your leisure to find out more about this tale. The gist is that even though the father sent all three on their way to maturity by expelling them from his kingdom, all three ended up being kings anyhow. They were not always in fortunate circumstances but used what they had to move on and this with a keen perception along the road. This is a gift they all had and that helped them in so many ways. And you have it, too. My name is not really Serendipity Jane. I’m actually called Lydia Proschinger but you must agree that Serendipity Jane does sound better. Exactly for that reason I chose this name, and also because it describes my gift and ability to read signs that are visible along the side of the road to reach my goals so that it leads me each time to unforeseen circumstances with an outcome that is to my advantage. I applied this strategy all my life, without knowing this word. I only discovered it for myself in 2002 with the book “Serendipities- Language and lunacy”, by Umberto Ecco, a well known Italian medievalist, semiotician, philosopher and novelist. It’s then that this awareness began and a need in me built up to work on myself. I wanted to learn at least one new skill a year (I learned 5 languages which I speak and write, and English is one of them. German is my mother tongue.) I made it a habit to stretch my mind beyond my comfort zone. Change is still a constant in life and I truly believe that it helped me overcome every obstacle because I would look for the clues in experiences that would take me to the next level.
Now, the bottom line is: just as this gift “Serendipity” has helped me, these three princes of the fairy tale, and others, if you search history for instance Sir Alexander Fleming (1881-1955), the British bacteriologist who was able to deduct that the mould (Penicillin ) growing on something he observed was killing bacteria (e.g. Anthrax, a.o.), my conviction is that this gift will enable you to generate the most exhilarating feeling that makes you realize that, yes, you CAN do it!
Walpole says himself that the word is better understood by derivation than by purely using a definition. So I will refrain from finding one that has not already been mentioned in dictionaries, perhaps fully aware that it means to each one of you more in the application and over time as you develop the gift and put it actively to use for yourself, people will not fully understand what it meant to you but you will know by going back over that time line of yours and looking back on your achievements.
You have joined this club with the intention to find people to surround yourself with who are, like you, self-starters, motivated, interested in self-development and their personal growth. Perhaps you have read most of the books on the market? Perhaps you have followed many courses? Have you already been to seminars and workshops? Possibly. But even if you have not, you won’t be confronted with anything totally foreign to you. I firmly believe that you have all it takes to be successful. However, it’s evident that any genius that doesn’t develop with knowledge and skill, no matter how extraordinary, will not flourish. It’s takes time and many books, workshops, seminars and perhaps a personal coach to get you to put to good use the already acquired knowledge. Few changes will actually happen in your life if you don’t. apply the learned lessons, concepts, principles, and make that paradigm shift in your life.
To make sense of life you are the only one that actually can make it. You’re the one who adds ideas as you pick up a book and learn for yourself. You are familiar with the subject matter. Here is where you’ll find out how to build that mechanism which translates thought into action.
Possibly you came here for exactly that: You wanted to explore your gift for discovery by accident and sagacity. That’s perhaps why you’re in pursuit of something that you have a burning desire for, because you know that you CAN DO IT. You came to the right place. I believe that you can, also. This is a moment of celebration. |Insert sound effect of Champaign-popping and chiming glasses!]
Join me on this week’s journey of serendipitous mind exploration. Acquiring new habits, or dropping some of those that you don’t need anymore, is not difficult. It’s just a matter of getting to wrap your mind around notions that you had not previously been integrating in your daily life and taking actions you had not taken before. If it pushes you to your limits then that’s exactly where I want you to be: The better life is just outside of your comfort zone. That’s the purpose of coaching. Now let’s get rid of all the rubbish like “I can’t” and “I don’t know”. Let’s get rid of lingering doubt that something you want to accomplish is not reachable. Whether or not you can see it now: You Can Do It, subscribe to this now and whatever this “it” of yours represents that currently keeps you busy, I’ll identify what holds you back and I’ll ensure that you will have added this column to your bookmarks, come back each week to check if your questions have been answered, and send new questions for more.
I doubt that you will leave our encounter today to the occasional and accidental “pleasure meeting you”. If I become part of a superficial browse through cyber space, you won’t be able to progress. Although I’m not going to take any offence, as it’s your choice and I respect that but just know that once you make this your weekly read, I will be able to become part of your team in constructing what you’re intending to create.
This “I.T.” (note that it is not an E.T.) of yours will materialize, take shape, you add the color and success is your sure destination. Will you agree that it takes consistency to get the best result?
To fully benefit from this opportunity and to use this as a tool as part of being a member of this brand new Club, you need to regularly check back and essentially, join in to develop a symbiotic relationship with your Life Pro Coach. It might become an addictive part of your life, but note that the side effects of this “addiction” would be that you bring into alignment what your life’s purpose is. If it only brings you the occasional chuckle, this is not for you. If it generates the odd ‘aha-moment‘ every blue moon, you’re not really digging into this potential. I’m here to add serendipity to your mind, oxygen to your blood (are you breathing deeply and smoothly into your belly?) and water to your organism (are you drinking 80 oz per day?). Construct the mindset which enables you to create, recreate, and co-create what you had always wanted to accomplish but hadn’t dared to get started with. It’ll help you to take the necessary action and keep going. One page at a time, your thoughts, ideas, dreams, and wishes will transform into concrete goals in which you’ll learn to believe. You’ll actively start to plan whilst continuing to study. You’ll use the right moments to decide about what you need to prepare. You begin with confidence and then put yourself on a routine to work on those things you daily need to do to get to where you want to be.
Perhaps you’ll be worried that you won’t have time? On the contrary, this will save you not just time but money. Now are you prepared to find out more? This is the moment in which you will need to sit back and rest, listen to that little voice inside of you that brings you back in harmony with your true purpose and then smile, it is contagious.
That’s how this column is intended to be. Come here weekly to get that little push in the small of your back. Come here when you feel like there is something that’s blocking you from moving ahead. Come here when you need to take your mind off matters and reconnect with your personal goals in order to gain momentum. I’m here to help you find clarity and to persist. Please ensure now that the door of your office is closed, that the light is not too bright, the noise or music around not too loud. Lean back in your chair and smile. Go ahead then and print this article, jot down the thoughts that come to your mind immediately, start a new notebook and you’re ready to follow me on a brain jogging moment, right now: Write down a minimum of 20 goals you want to accomplish in your lifetime. By now you should feel inspired to help these goals take shape. You’ll choose one that your desire is strongest for and take notes immediately, jotting down ideas that you have with regards to this goal. This will help you write that email to me later. J
I reminded you earlier about breathing and drinking (water!), simply because your mind needs to be fully oxygenized and hydrated so that you’ll be able to memorize what springs to your mind. Hold these thoughts! Let them become clear as crystal! Let your desire motivate you to action and keep this moment strong and intense. Today, if you’ll take this serious, you are starting a very important chapter in your book of life. Ready to turn that page?

Only the very well-prepared mind (such as yours) is truly capable of grasping the significance of any unexpected event, fortunate aspect and occurrence that can influence your situation for the better. Sharpen your senses! Your interest needs to be to keenly draw on all the insights you can collect that center and circle your goals in the core of your daily life so that you use this desire and clarity to shape first your mindset and then the reality around you along with all the serendipities, adventures, and discoveries.
